Project Overview

Whipps Cross Hospital is one of London’s busiest healthcare facilities, serving thousands of patients, visitors, and staff daily. With increasing demand and limited on-site parking, the hospital required a robust, long-term parking solution that would ease congestion, improve accessibility, and enhance the overall patient and visitor experience.

MTF Ltd was appointed to deliver a comprehensive surfacing solution for the new Multi-Storey Car Park (MSCP), covering over 10,000m². Given the operational intensity of a live healthcare environment, the system specified needed to be durable, safe, low-maintenance, and suitable for continuous vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

The project was successfully completed in June 2025, delivered on time and to the highest quality standards.

The Challenge

Operating within a live hospital environment presents unique logistical and operational challenges:

  • High daily traffic volumes
  • Continuous 24/7 access requirements
  • Strict health and safety compliance
  • Accessibility for vulnerable users
  • Exposure of upper decks to harsh weather conditions
  • Long-term durability requirements with minimal maintenance disruption

The MSCP required designated EV charging bays to support sustainable transport initiatives, as well as clearly marked disabled parking bays to ensure inclusive access for all patients and visitors.

MTF Ltd worked closely with stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption while delivering a system designed for longevity and performance.

Scope of Works

  • Installation of car park deck coating systems across 10,000m²+
  • Application of Sikafloor 2214 UV to the roof deck
  • Application of Sikafloor EB-14 UV to internal levels
  • Line marking and bay demarcation
  • Installation of EV bays
  • Installation of disabled bays with compliant markings
  • Anti-slip finishes to ramps and traffic routes

Roof Deck System: Sikafloor® 2214 UV

The exposed roof deck required a high-performance, UV-stable waterproofing system capable of withstanding constant vehicular traffic and environmental exposure.

Why Sikafloor 2214 UV?

Sikafloor 2214 UV is a polyurethane-based, crack-bridging deck coating system specifically designed for exposed car park decks.

Internal Deck System: Sikafloor® EB-14 UV

For the internal parking levels, a robust, abrasion-resistant system was required to withstand continuous traffic movement while maintaining a clean and professional appearance.

Why Sikafloor EB-14 UV?

Sikafloor EB-14 UV is a heavy-duty epoxy-based system suitable for intermediate car park decks.

Accessibility & Sustainability

Understanding the critical nature of hospital access, the MSCP design included:

  • Clearly designated and compliant disabled bays, located for convenient access to hospital entrances
  • Dedicated EV charging bays, supporting the hospital’s sustainability objectives
  • Clearly defined pedestrian walkways
  • High-visibility line markings for improved safety

The result is a car park that serves the needs of patients, visitors, staff, and future transport demands.

The Outcome

The new Whipps Cross Hospital MSCP now provides:

  • Over 10,000m² of protected parking infrastructure
  • Long-term structural waterproofing
  • Heavy-duty traffic protection
  • Inclusive parking solutions
  • Support for electric vehicle adoption
  • Reduced maintenance requirements
  • Improved patient and visitor experience

Completed in June 2025, this project demonstrates MTF Ltd’s expertise in delivering high-performance car park decking systems within complex healthcare environments.
