MTF was appointed to deliver a fully waterproof, high-performance coating system for a newly constructed multi-storey car park. The client required a robust and visually striking solution that would protect the concrete substrate and support long-term durability, even in challenging weather conditions.
To achieve this, MTF installed the Sikafloor EB-14 system on the internal levels and the Sikafloor RB-28 MMA system on the exposed top deck. The result was a seamless, anti-slip surface with contrasting colour line markings that elevated both safety and aesthetics.
This project involved a newly cast concrete slab that was in good condition overall, requiring only minor patch repairs before installation could begin. However, one of the key challenges was the persistent bad weather that hit during the critical installation window, threatening project timelines.
Midway through the works, we faced significant delays due to poor weather conditions, especially on the top deck. To mitigate the risk of missing the project handover date, we made a specification change—switching from the Sikafloor Traffic 2214 UV system to the faster-curing Sikafloor RB-28 MMA system. This allowed the team to accelerate the programme and stay on track for completion. Additional labour was brought in over weekends to maintain momentum and meet the revised schedule.
We began by mechanically preparing the new concrete surfaces using a combination of shotblasting and diamond grinding, to ensure optimal bonding in line with manufacturer guidelines. Localised concrete repairs were completed using Sikafloor 151 primer mixed with DKI Quartz to create a durable repair mortar.
Once prepared, we primed the surface with Sikafloor 151, boosted with Sikafloor 54 to enhance curing in colder temperatures—critical, as installation began in December 2024. An aggregate broadcast followed, using 0.3–0.6mm quartz for the internal areas. The topcoat, Sikafloor 359N, completed the EB-14 system on the internal decks, offering a fast and efficient two-layer solution.
Adverse weather made the original system (Sikafloor Traffic 2214 UV) unworkable within the tight schedule, prompting the change to Sikafloor RB-28. This MMA-based system cures rapidly, even in low temperatures, allowing us to press on despite the weather setbacks.
The top deck system included Sikafloor Pronto 32 as the base layer followed by Sikafloor Pronto 18 Topcoat, providing a fast-track, durable finish with excellent UV stability.
Once both systems were fully cured, our line marking team followed closely behind, applying bay lines, directional arrows, and symbols to complete the project with clear, high-contrast guidance for users.
Despite significant weather-related challenges, MTF delivered a high-spec, fully waterproof deck coating system on time and to the client’s complete satisfaction. The combination of performance coatings and clean, contrasting line markings not only met the functional requirements but also enhanced the overall appearance of the car park.
