What is Anti-Slip Resin Flooring?

Anti-slip (or non-slip) resin flooring uses a surface finish designed to provide additional grip under defined conditions. Depending on the system, this may involve a textured coating or suitable aggregate incorporated into the surface.

The aim is to reduce slip risk, but no flooring finish can remove every risk. The right specification needs to reflect how the floor will actually be used.

Where is Anti-Slip Flooring useful?

Slip-resistant finishes may be appropriate in areas where liquids, residues, weather or work processes can affect the floor surface, including:

  • Food manufacturing and processing areas
  • Warehouses and loading zones
  • Production and washdown areas
  • Ramps, access routes and selected car park areas
  • Industrial spaces where spills or moisture are forseeable

The requirements vary between sites. A finish suitable for one production area may not be the best choice for a clean, dry warehouse aisle.

How do you choose the right level of grip?

Identify the source of the risk

Consider whether the floor is exposed to water, oils, food residues, cleaning chemicals, outdoor weather or other contaminants. The conditions present during normal work and cleaning are both relevant.

Balance grip and cleanability

A more textured surface may provide additional grip in appropriate conditions, but it can also be harder to clean. In hygiene-sensitive environments, the finish needs to balance slip resistance with the cleaning regime and operational requirements.

Consider traffic and wear

Forklifts, pallet trucks, pedestrians and wheeled equipment place different demands on the surface. The selected system should be suitable for the expected traffic and maintenance arrangements.

Confirm how performance will be assessed

Where a project specification requires slip-resistance testing, agree the appropriate test method and acceptance criteria with the relevant project team. Results should be interpreted in the context of the actual conditions and applicable guidance.

Why preparation and installation matter

The condition of the existing floor, preparation method, chosen resin system and application quality all influence the finished surface. A site assessment can help identify substrate issues and establish what needs to be addressed before installation.
